Astrarium is a planisphere and astronomical simulator for iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and Apple Watch. Choose a place and a time and it draws that sky — not only the sky now, but any past or future one, with planetary phases, eclipses, meteor showers and comets on the same chart.
Every position is computed on the device (JPL DE421, the IAU precession and nutation models, IERS Earth orientation), so the whole app works where there is no signal. No ads, no account.
On Apple Watch (watchOS 10.0 or later, installed with the iPhone app) there are two screens: Tonight — twilight, the Moon, the planets up with their bearing and altitude, the next satellite pass and any shower running — and a star chart holding the whole sky in one disc, which the Digital Crown moves up to twelve hours either way. Chapter 12 of the iPhone and iPad manual covers it.
Astrarium Pro, an in-app subscription, adds the 3D solar system map (1.56 million small bodies, the comets and the spacecraft), the aurora forecast (NASA DONKI and NOAA OVATION, and from 2.2 an auroral breakup you can watch play out), the proper-motion time machine (50,000 years either way), exoplanet transits, variable-star maxima and minima, the equidistant projection for planetarium domes and local sidereal time. On iPhone, iPad and Mac it is a subscription inside the same app (from 2.1); on Android it is a separate app, Astrarium Pro, with a subscription or a one-time purchase inside. The entry points stay where they are, locked, and show what they add. From 2.3.1 the deep star catalogue (UCAC4, 2.34 million stars to 12th magnitude) comes with the app and needs no subscription. AR needs no subscription, and neither do the space stations and the naked-eye satellites down to magnitude 4 — Pro adds the remaining groups, the world map and globe, and search by name.
